Is this degree accredited?
Yes! Our Master of Christian Studies degree (MCS) was approved by the Association of Theological Schools in June.
Can it really be taken completely online?
Yes! The courses will be offered in a four year rotation.
Can I enroll in this degree if I am an on-campus student?
Yes. The degree could be completed on-campus in two full-time years of study.
How much does this degree cost?
Like all of our degrees, the cost is per credit hour, so you pay as you go. There is also a small technology fee for online courses. Check with the Business Office for current tuition fees as well as available scholarships.
Who teaches the online courses?
Many schools farm out their online courses to adjunct instructors. At CSBS you will have the same top-shelf faculty in the virtual classroom that you have in the classrooms on campus.
How is this degree different from the other degrees at CSBS?
The MCS (48 credit hours) differs from the Master of Divinity (92 credit hours) and the Master of Christian Ministry (60 credit hours) in that it is not primarily designed for those who want comprehensive ministry training. Students taking the MCS are not required to complete field education (capstone ministry project) as in the other two degrees, for example. There is some similarity between the MCS and the Master of Biblical Studies (MBS). Both are 48 credit hours and can be completed entirely online. However, the MCS does not require a student to take either Greek of Hebrew. It is ideal for lay leaders who want deeper biblical and theological grounding as well as orientation in engaging our world.
What courses are required for the MCS degree?
See the CSBS&C website for a complete listing of courses and course descriptions. The first course in this program, which will be offered online this fall is “Biblical Interpretation.” So why not get started right away?!
