Definitions

The following tuition benefits and scholarships are available to students admitted into a degree program at the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary & College. Applications must be submitted to the Business Office by the application deadline stated below. Late applications will not be accepted.

Tuition benefits are approved on an annual basis and students must submit an application each school year by the deadline below or the benefit will be forfeited.

Canadian National Baptist Convention Tuition Benefit
(current & new students)

Thanks to the generosity of churches that make up the Canadian National Baptist Convention and that participate in the Cooperative Program, the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary & College is able to provide the CNBC Tuition Benefit to students from those churches. Because of our reciprocal agreement with the Southern Baptist Convention (USA), students from SBC churches also qualify for this tuition benefit.

This tuition benefit is further restricted to students who are fully admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program of the CSBS&C and who have been active members of a CNBC or SBC church for at least one year prior to submitting this application. Students who are eligible for this tuition benefit are also expected to demonstrate consistency in their academic studies.

This tuition benefit of $30.00 per credit hour is awarded annually for the following school year. The student will be responsible to re-apply for each year of training.

Missionary IMB or NAMB Program Tuition Benefit
Tuition Benefit for students who have participated in
IMB or NAMB missions (2-year minimum)
(current & new students)

To be eligible to apply for this tuition benefit, each student must have completed a full term through the International Mission Board (IMB) as a Journeyman or ISC or through North American Mission Board (NAMB) as a MSC or US/C2 missionary. The student must be fully admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program of the CSBS&C within three years of returning from the mission field. The student must also demonstrate consistency in academic studies (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3).

Recipients will receive a 50% tuition benefit of tuition (fees are not included) for one school year. The student will be responsible to re-apply for each year of training.

Please be aware that by applying for this tuition benefit you will not be eligible to submit an application for any other scholarships or tuition benefits available at CSBS&C.

CNBC Dependents Tuition Benefit
Scholarship for dependents of people in official
staff positions within the CNBC including churches
(current & new students)

To be eligible to apply for this tuition benefit, a student must be a dependent of a person who either currently is or in the past was in an official ministerial staff position within the CNBC (including CNBC churches) or an official staff position within the CSBS&C. The student must be fully admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program of the CSBS&C by the age of 30 and is expected to demonstrate consistency in academic studies (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3). The amount of this tuition benefit is based on the years of service accomplished by the student's parent(s) within the CNBC.

Recipients will receive a maximum of 50% tuition benefit for tuition (fees are not included) for one school year. The student will be responsible to re-apply for each year of training.

IMB Dependents Tuition Benefit
Tuition Benefit for dependents of IMB field missionaries
(current & new students)

To be eligible for this tuition benefit, a student must be a dependent of a person who either currently is or in the past was a field missionary of the International Mission Board (IMB). The student must be fully admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program of the CSBS&C by the age of 30 and is expected to demonstrate consistency in academic studies (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3). The amount of this tuition benefit is based on the years of service accomplished by the student's parents as IMB field missionaries.

Recipients will receive a maximum of 50% tuition benefit (fees are not included) for one school year. The student will be responsible to re-apply for each year of training.

Barnabas Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to new incoming CSBS&C students to help with the transitional costs of beginning a seminary or college education at the CSBS&C.

The student must enroll as a full-time student in an undergraduate or graduate program of the CSBS&C. Each CNBC church (or SBC church) may nominate one outstanding student per year for the Barnabas Scholarship. The potential student must demonstrate Christian leadership and godly character and must also demonstrate financial need. The pastor of the church recommending the student must complete a pastoral reference form.

Recipients will receive a 50% scholarship of tuition (excluding fees) for the first semester only.

Please be aware that by applying for this scholarship you will not be eligible to submit an application for any other scholarships or tuition benefits available at CSBS&C for the first semester only.

Missionary CNBC/NAMB Program Scholarship Scholarship for students who have participated in a
short-term missions program within the CNBC or in a NAMB
semester missionary program

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, a new incoming student must have completed a minimum of 6 consecutive weeks in a missions program within the CNBC or a NAMB semester missionary program prior to enrolling in a program at CSBS&C. The student must be fully admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program of the CSBS&C within five years of having completed the missions program.

Recipients will receive a $500 scholarship for the first semester only.

Scholarships provided by donors

To be eligible to apply for these scholarships the student must demonstrate financial need and consistency in academic studies (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3). In addition, the individuals who established various scholarship funds also set the eligibility criteria for that particular scholarship.

These scholarships are awarded once or twice a year during the spring and/or fall semester. Any student who applies and is approved receives a minimum of $250.

Students receiving funds from these donor supported scholarships will be required to write a letter of thanks to the donors.

The Audrey Yew-Teck Chung Memorial Scholarship was established by the husband and friends of Mrs. Audrey Yew-Teck Chung. It is available to full-time students in financial need.

The Brandon Harvest Baptist Church Scholarship was established by Harvest Baptist Church in Brandon, Manitoba, to be given to ministerial students who will be pastors in CNBC churches and who demonstrate financial need.

The DLH Scholarship Fund was established by friends and family of D.L.H., a Southern Baptist missionary to East Asia. The scholarship assists full-time students who are members in a CNBC church and have the intent to enter foreign missions service.

The David & Judi Young Scholarship was established by Mrs. Judi Young of Love, Saskatchewan, in memory of her husband David. This fund assists full-time students who will enter into the pastoral ministry or expect to be appointed as a foreign missionary by the CNBC. First consideration is to be given to students from Saskatchewan.

The Encouragement Fund was established by an alumnus of CSBS&C to assist students in a graduate or undergraduate program of the seminary. First preference is to be given to a student of First Nations origin.

The General Scholarship Fund was provided by friends of CSBS&C who are interested in supporting the education of individuals committed to church vocations. The scholarship assists needy students.

The Heng-Lan Cheng Memorial Scholarship Fund is a gift of Faith and Wei-Sek Hwang. This fund provides financial assistance to full-time students. Priority consideration is to be given to ethnic minority or native students.

The Len Koster Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of this pioneer mission pastor. The first scholarship established at CSBS&C, is funded by friends and family of Len Koster. It is available to older Canadian full-time students who intend to enter pastoral or evangelistic ministry for establishing churches in Canada and/or around the world.

The Madam Min-Tuck Chen Memorial Scholarship was established by the family of Faith and Wei-Sek Hwang in memory of Faith's mother. This fund is to assist full-time students.

The Muriel F. Blackwell Childhood Education Scholarship was established by Bill Blackwell in honor of his wife to be given to full-time students pursuing ministry to children. Preference will be given to female students.

The Percy & Marion Lee Religious Education Scholarship Fund was established by Drs. David & Barbara Wyman to provide assistance to students who plan to minister in the area of religious education and/or discipleship.

The Stephen Gover Memorial First Nations/Métis Scholarship Fund was established by Mrs. Vera Gover, wife of Stephen Gover, who started the Cochin Baptist Church in Saskatchewan. This fund gives preference to First Nations/Métis students who will enter into pastoral ministry.

The TBM Scholarship Fund was established by the Texas Baptist Men and their wives who have been supporters of CSBS&C for many years and continue to invest to leave a lasting legacy to our students. This fund assists full-time students in financial need.

The Madge McBee Memorial WMU Scholarship was established through the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) Foundation in memory of Madge McBee. This scholarship is available to female students, preferably involved in WMU activities, who are sincerely dedicated to pursue a career in missions.

The International Students Scholarship was established to assist international students in financial need.

The Madalene Cain Scholarship is to be awarded to students who intend to minister especially to the needs of girls and/or women by providing spiritual guidance, care or training.

The D.K. and Brenda Hale Scholarship was established in honor of the Hales to assist students.

The Osborne/Miller Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Dorothy & Darrell Osborne and Don Miller. Preference will be given to students who intend to enter foreign missions or pastoral ministry.
