Library Assistant

Location: 200 Seminary View, Cochrane, AB
Department: Library
Status: Part-time, 15 hours per week, February/21 to May/21
Start Date: Feb 1, 2021
Salary/Wage: $16 per hour

The Library Assistant relates to the Library Director of the Keith C. Wills Library of the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary & College. This position is an hourly part-time daytime position with the flexibility to cover full days during the librarian’s vacation and meeting schedule. This is a seasonal position, from February/21 to May/21.

Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Assist with the circulation duties.
  • Assist with shelving.
  • Assist with shelf reading.
  • Assist with special projects i.e. book sale, etc.
  • Process new books.
  • Assist with photocopying duties.
  • Process periodicals.
  • Assist students, staff, faculty, and community users with library information, usage, and research.
  • Assist with library book ordering process by searching titles in the library catalogue.
  • Some opening and/or closing of the library.

 

Required skills are:

  • Good communication skills
  • An enthusiastic and positive attitude, which translates into great customer service skills
  • A willingness to help out where required
  • A willingness to work full days when the library director is away
  • Ability to work unsupervised and be creative in time management
  • Detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs
  • Familiarity with database work and computer programming is beneficial but not required.
